THE PRUETT CENTER at Living Proof Christian College
Training Preachers and Teachers for Africa!
Living Proof Christian College is set to open its doors in September 2026 with a fresh and exciting vision to train a generation of preachers and school teachers not only for Zimbabwe, but all sub-Saharan Africa! Living Proof Christian College sits on the 160-acre campus of Pemberton Station right off the South African highway in the center of Zimbabwe at the region of Gutu. The campus is home to the exciting Living Proof High School as well as the brand new Togarepi Primary School and now, coming this September, Living Proof Christian College!
At the center of LPCC will be the Pruett Center! Pemberton station is named in honor of Hippo Valley Christian Mission founder, John (Marge) Pemberton . The Pruett Center will be named in honor of co-founder, Dr Denny (Lucy) Pruett. John and Denny were WWII veterans who promised God during the war that when they got them home alive, they would serve him for the rest of their lives.
Today HVCM has 30 mission schools with more than 20,000 children enrolled. There is an orphan ministry that has raised hundreds of children in crisis. There have been preacher training institutions as well as hundreds of churches established because of this great mission. Zimbabwe is one of the most evangelized countries in all of Africa, due in major part to these great pioneer missionaries.
Seventy years later it is now time for Zimbabwe to shift from being a mission field, to becoming a mission movement! It's time to train, equip and deploy an army of preachers and teachers for all of Africa!
Africa is an enormous continent - nearly five times the size of the United States with 1.5 billion people living there. Islam now controls most of northern Africa and like an aggressive cancer, is encroaching southward towards sub-Saharan Africa. Islam does not evangelize. They proselytize. Islam does not preach the gospel. They have no good news. Islam advances with a sword. Christianity, however, does preach Good News. We do not advance with a sword made by human hands, but with the sword of God's word which is living and active and sharper than a double-edged sword. (Heb 4:12)
At Living Proof Christian College, we will be raising up a generation of young preachers and school-teachers equipped with the good news of Jesus Christ!
The Pruett center will be the heart of LPCC. It will house 6 big classrooms, office space, a print shop, Media Center and right at the heart of the Pruett Center will be the Thurman Library.
Tom (Norma) Thurman were missionaries along with the Pemberton’s and Pruett’s in the 1960s. They established a vital printing ministry and served as Bible teachers and educators for African students in the formative days of this mission.
Today, those great missionaries are gone. However, their legacy lives on as HVCM continues to advance and expand its reach!
Dave (Susan) Thurman, son of Tom and Norma, has served for over 30 years on the board of Central Africa Mission and HVCM. And for the past 13 years has served as HVCM’s board chairman. Dr. Darel (Mary)Pruett has also served faithfully working with the mission in so many ways and has been HVCM’s vice chairman for many years. These families continue to pour into this mission with their time, resources, leadership, experience and energy.
The Pruett Center and Thurman Library will honor both families that have invested so much into this great mission.
The cost to build and equip the Pruett Center/Thurman Library is around $650,000. $500,000 has already been provided. Our goal over the next six months is to raise the additional $150,000 to complete the Pruett Center/Thurman Library. Any gift that you wish to make will go directly toward this project.
